Bruce Knight, a Watson Green collaborator, is a nationally recognized expert on agriculture, conservation and the environment. He has a broad understanding of how Washington works, based on experience as an association executive, lobbyist, regulator and Capitol Hill staffer.
From 2002 to 2006, Knight headed the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the lead Agriculture Department agency for farmland conservation. From 2006 to 2009 he was under secretary of agriculture for marketing and regulatory programs. Knight worked on conservation policy for Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kans.) and was a legislative assistant to Rep. Fred Grandy, (R-Iowa) and Senator James Abdnor (R-S.D.). He also worked for the National Corn Growers Association and the National Association of Wheat Growers.
A third-generation rancher and farmer, Knight brings firsthand knowledge of farming to his policy credentials. He operates a diversified grain and cattle farm in South Dakota using no-till and other conservation systems.
Knight owns Strategic Conservation Solutions, a consulting firm advising firms and associations on agriculture, conservation, environment and technology.
